Judge Maurice Sanchez - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Maurice Sanchez is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed on October 29, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.

Sanchez earned a B.A. from the University of California, Irvine in 1978. He then received a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1981.

Sanchez began his legal career as an associate with Rutan and Tucker. He then moved to Hyundai Motor America, where he worked as senior counsel from 1986 to 1991. He spent the next two years working as managing counsel at Mazda Motor of America before joining Alvarado, Smith, and Sanchez as a shareholder in 1993. Then, in 2005, he became a partner at Baker and Hostetler, a position he held until 2017 when he became a partner at Nelson, Mullins, Riley, and Scarborough.

He has been a member of the Orange County Bar Association Business Litigation Section as well as the National Association of Motor Vehicle Boards and Commissioners.

Sanchez has also served as President of the Orange County Hispanic Bar Association, President of the Olive Crest Treatment Centers for Abused Children, and member of the Parishes in Need Committee for Diocese of Orange.

He was a resident of Coto de Caza, California at the time of his appointment to the bench.

Sanchez is registered without party preference.
