The Hon. Maureen Duffy-Lewis is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was originally appointed to the Municipal Court by former Governor George Deukmejian in 1987. She was elected to the Superior Court in 1997.
In 1969 Duffy-Lewis traveled and performed as a volunteer with the USO to entertain troops overseas.
Judge Duffy-Lewis graduated with her B.A. in speech communications as well as her California teaching credentials from the University of Southern California in 1971. She went on to earn her J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 1974.
Duffy-Lewis entered into private practice after graduating from law school. She practiced aviation and family law from 1978 to 1981. She became the Assistant Dean for Northop University School of Law in 1981 and served in that capacity for two years. Judge Duffy-Lewis then joined the law firm of Brauer, Lewis, and Nelson as an associate in 1983. After practicing with the firm for a year, she joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1984 as a deputy district attorney. She served as a prosecutor for the D.A.'s office until her appointment to the Superior Court in 1987.
Judge Duffy-Lewis, a native of Los Angeles, was named a Fulbright Scholar in 2009. She taught at Sofia University in Bulgaria as part of the Fulbright Scholar Program.
She is an author, speaker and a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
