The Hon. Matthew R. Brower is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was elected to the bench after defeating incumbent Superior Court Judge Gary Kreep in November 2018.
Brower earned a B.A. in history and French from San Jose State University in 2001. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2003.
He began his legal career as a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, where he worked in the European Command handling fiscal and international legal matters. He also completed two deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Then, in 2012, Brower transitioned into the Office of the District Attorney of San Diego County as a deputy district attorney. He held this position for six years, leading the Regional Auto Theft Task Force.
His memberships have included the San Diego Bar Association, the San Diego Deputy District Attorneys Association, the California District Attorneys Association, the Veterans Democratic Club of San Diego, Democrats for Environmental Action, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Tom Hohmann Law Association.
Although he was born in San Diego, Brower was raised in Susanville. When he is not serving on the bench, he enjoys going to the beach and spending time with his friends and family.
Brower is registered as a Democrat.
