The Hon. Mary Fingal Schulte (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. She was appointed to the Municipal Court of Orange County by former governor Pete Wilson on August 25, 1997. She was elevated to the Superior Court on August 10, 1998, upon the majority vote of judges in the county to convert Municipal Courts to Superior Courts.
Schulte attended California State University, Fullerton, where she earned a B.A. in history in 1974. She then received a J.D. from the University of California, Davis in 1977.
Schulte began her legal career in 1978. She served as a deputy district attorney for the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County until 1981. Then, in 1984, she joined Gardner & Martin as an associate, a position she held until 1987. She spent the next year working as an associate with Martin & Wilson. She then served as a partner and vice president of Martin, Wilson, Fingal & MacDowell from 1988 to 1997, where she specialized in construction, premises and products liability, insurance coverage, and medical malpractice (defense).
Schulte received the Trial Judge of the Year Award from the Orange County Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2016. She has also been awarded the Judicial Civility Award from Robert Banyard Inn of Court (2013) and the Judicial Civility Award from the Orange County Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (2003). In 2002 she was honored with the St. Thomas More Award from the St. Thomas More Society of Orange County.
Schulte has served as the Chairperson for the Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Commission for the Diocese of Orange from 1999 to 2005.
She is a hospice volunteer and is proficient in French.
