The Hon. Mary Brown is a judge for the 301st (Family) District Court in Dallas County, Texas. Brown initially joined the bench as a family law associate judge in 1996. Eighteen years later, she was elected presiding judge for the 301st District Court.
Brown earned a B.B.A. in marketing from the University of Texas in 1982. Then, in 1986, she completed a J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center.
After graduating from law school, Brown began her legal career as a briefing attorney for the Hon. Marvin O. Teague of the Texas court of Criminal Appeals in 1986. The following year, she joined the Dallas County District Attorneys Office, where she briefly served as County Criminal Court Chief.
Brown entered into private practice in 1988. She first worked as an attorney at Coover & McCrossin (1988 to 1989) before moving to Finer, Kim & Stearns (1990) in Los Angeles County. During this time, she specialized in all aspects of family law.
In 1991, Brown returned to the Dallas County District Attorneys Office. She spent the next four years serving as its Family District Court Chief.
Her memberships have included the Family Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association, the Crime Victims Committee of the Texas Bar Association, and the Dallas Bar Foundation. She is also an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Junior League of Dallas.
Brown is registered as a Democrat.
