Judge Martin C. Suits - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Martin C. Suits (Ret.) served as a judge for the Fresno County Superior Court in California. Suits was elected to the bench as a circuit rider judge in 1990. He retired in 2013 and joined the Assigned Judges Program.

Over the course of his judicial career, Suits was assigned to 50 of the 58 counties in California. He spent six years on the county master calendar court in Van Nuys. He also spent time as an administrative judge for the Judicial Council of California and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Suits earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1969. He then completed a J.D. at Western State College of Law.

After graduating from law school, Suits relocated to Harford, where he worked as an attorney in private practice. He worked in this capacity until his election to the bench.

Suits was born in Visalia, California. Shortly after, he moved with his family to Avenal and then to Long Beach. He graduated from Wilson High School. His wife, Sharon, taught English in Hanford, California. She then became an assistant principal in three separate districts, devoting thirty-two years to public education.
