The Hon. Mark J. Caruso is a judge for the Schenectady City Court in the Fourth Judicial District of New York. He was first appointed to the City Court by Mayor Gary R. McCarthy in 2015 and subsequently elected to the seat the same year. In 2017, Judge Caruso was appointed to serve as an acting judge of the Schenectady County Court for one year.
Judge Caruso received his B.A. from Union College in 1989. He went on to earn his J.D. from Albany Law School in 1992.
Caruso began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office in 1993. In 2001, he moved to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, where he served in the same capacity until 2004. While with the Schenectady D.A.’s office, Caruso was responsible for overseeing its domestic violence prosecutions.
After leaving the Albany County D.A.’s office in 2004, Caruso became the chief public defender with the Schenectady County Public Defender’s Office. He served in that position until his appointment to the City Court in 2015.
