Biography

The Hon. Mark A. McCannon is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2013. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. David E. Hunter (Ret.).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge McCannon received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1992. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1996.

McCannon worked as a deputy district attorney with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office from 1997 until his appointment to the bench in 2013. During his sixteen-year tenure there, McCannon served as the head of the D.A.'s Stalking Unit and helped to prosecute cases involving domestic violence, probation, and parole violations. McCannon was also tasked with handling the D.A.'s Expungement Program in which he would determine if individuals met certain criteria that would allow their records to be expunged.

His memberships have included the Charles Houston Bar Association and the Black Prosecutors' Association.
