Biography

The Hon. Margie G. Woods is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis on June 4, 2001, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Richard Murphy.

Woods earned a B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976. She then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego in 1980.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Woods served as a deputy city attorney for the Office of the City Attorney of San Diego. She also worked as an attorney for Defenders, Inc., a non-profit organization tasked with providing contract attorneys for indigent defendants in San Diego County.

Woods began her judicial career as a juvenile court referee, where she presided over dependency and delinquency cases from 1987 to 1990. Then, from 1993 to 2001, she served as a court commissioner for the San Diego Municipal Court as well as the Superior Court of San Diego County.

Woods has been a member of the San Diego Lawyers Club, the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego, and the San Diego Bar Association. She has been a participant of the Volunteers in Parole Mentor Program, and she has served on the board of trustees of Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego.

Woods was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. She then lived in the Netherlands before immigrating with her family to Denver, Colorado in 1960.
