Hon. Margaret B. LaBianca is a judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Doug Ducey in May 2018.
During her judicial tenure, LaBianca held assignments in the Criminal, Family, and Probate/Civil Courts.
Prior to her appointment, she sat for three years as a commissioner of the Maricopa County Superior Court (2015 to 2018).
Before that, she was in private practice. LaBianca was of counsel at Snell & Wilmer LLP (2014 to 2015), a shareholder at Polsinelli PC (2010 to 2014), and an associate and partner at Bryan Cave LLP (1999 to 2010). Over the course of her legal career, she gained experience in environmental, water, energy, and utility law. In addition, LaBianca co-authored a chapter on water law in the 2006 and 2011 editions of “The Most Frequently Asked Questions in Environmental Law,” published by the Maricopa County Bar Association.
She received a B.A. in American studies from Simmons College (1987) and an M.A. in American studies from Columbia University (1995). LaBianca went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law in 1998.
After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Frederick J. Martone with the Arizona Supreme Court (1998 to 1999).
Her memberships have included the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and the Maricopa County Bar Association (Environmental Law Section, past chair). LaBianca was also a former chair of the State Bar of Arizona’s Environmental & Natural Resources Law Section and Administrative Law Section.
Her civic involvement includes Poverty’s Pets (Board of Directors), the National Charity League (Phoenix Chapter), the University of Arizona Law College Association, and the Arizona Town Hall (past reporter).
LaBianca was named a Leading Lawyer in Environment Including Water Rights by Chambers USA and a Top Lawyers for Energy and Natural Resources and Fifty Most Influential Women in Arizona Business by AZ Business Magazine.
