The Hon. Marco D. Nunez is a judge for the Imperial County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2016. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Raymond A. Cota (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Nunez graduated with his B.A. in English literature and writing from the University of California, San Diego. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Nunez served as the assistant director of the University of San Francisco School of Law's Academic Support Program from 2000 to 2001. He then practiced as an associate at the Law Office of Eric Beaudikofer for one year beginning in 2001.
The following year he left private practice to join the Imperial County Public Defender's Office, where he served as a deputy public defender until 2006. He then joined the Imperial County District Attorney's Office, where he worked as a deputy district attorney until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2016.
His memberships have included the California Judges Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Constitutional Rights Foundation, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Human Rights Campaign.
Nunez served for several years as an attorney coach for the Central Union High School Mock Trial Team. He has also served as a mentor with the Imperial County Superior Court Externship Program and as a Law Day volunteer.
