The Hon. M. Marc Kelly is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Gray Davis in 2000, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Myron S. Brown.
Kelly attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1982. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1987.
Kelly began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County in 1988, where he specialized in gang-related cases. He was eventually promoted to Senior Deputy District Attorney, a position he held at the time of his appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County.
In 2015 Kelly received national attention after he eliminated 15 years from a mandatory minimum sentence for an individual convicted of sodomy on a child under 10. The Fourth District Court of Appeal reversed the sentence in an unanimous ruling.
He is a recipient of the Victim Witness Outstanding Prosecutor Award.
