The Hon. Lupe C. Garcia is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2016. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Cecilia P. Castellanos (Ret.).
She is registered without party preference.
Judge Garcia graduated with her B.A. in public policy from Occidental College. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1995.
She began her legal career as an associate at the Oakland law firm of Lafayette and Kumagai LLP in 1995.
Four years later, Garcia would join Gap Inc., where she would initially serve as senior corporate counsel for the company's employment law matters. During her time in that role, Garcia would also help to establish the International Employment Law practice at Gap Inc. Then, in 2006, she transitioned into the role of associate general counsel and senior director for global integrity for Gap Inc.'s Compliance and Ethics department. She would remain in that position until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2016. While there, Garcia also served on the steering committee for Gap Inc.'s Latino Employee Resource Group.
Garcia has served as a California State University trustee and was awarded the Bob Linscheid Trustee of the Year Award by the California State Student Association in 2016.
Her other memberships have included the board of directors for the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, a member of the Ethics and Compliance Officers Association, and the Bay Area Ethics and Compliance Association.
While on the bench, Judge Garcia has presided in the Juvenile Delinquency Department of the Juvenile Justice Center.
