The Hon. Lourdes M. Ventura is a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Queens County. She was elected to the bench in 2019.
Ventura earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1994. She continued her studies there, completing a J.D. and an M.S.W. in 1998.
After graduating from law school, Ventura joined the Queens County District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney in 1998. Four years later, she left the District Attorney’s Office, becoming an assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General. Ventura then became counsel for the New York State Senate in 2007.
Then, in 2010, Ventura entered into private practice. She became a partner at Ahmuty, Demers & McManus, a position she held until her election to the bench.
Her memberships have included the Latino Judges Association and the National Association of Women Judges. She has been an officer of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, a delegate for the New York State Bar Association, a board member of the Queens County Bar Association, a board member of the Dominican Bar Association, and a trustee of the Queens County Supreme Court Law Library.
Ventura has served as president of the Queens County Women’s Bar Association and the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County. She was also the New York Deputy Regional President of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
She was born in Queens, New York to immigrants from the Dominican Republic.
