The Hon. Lonnie Cox is a judge for the 56th District Court in Galveston County, Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2004.
Prior to his election, Cox served as an assistant criminal district attorney in the Galveston County District Attorneys Office since 1994. During his tenure there, he was named Chief Felony Prosecutor and Chief of Misdemeanors. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Cox earned a B.M.Ed. from the University of Houston in 1974. He spent the next four years working as a musician with the Calgary Philharmonic, the Houston Symphony, the Houston Grand Opera, and the Houston Ballet. He then joined The Lubrizol Corporation as an operator, rising through the ranks to become the customer service managers for two plants. While working in this capacity, he completed an M.B.A. from Houston Baptist University (1985) as well as a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center (1993).
His professional memberships have included the Galveston County Bar Association, the Galveston County Justice Board, the Galveston County Juvenile Probation Board, as well as the Galveston County Community Supervision & Correction Board.
He has also been an active member of the Galveston Pachyderm Club, the Galveston Rotary club, the Galveston Morning Kiwanis Club, the Dickinson Optimist Club, the Galveston Beach Band, the South Main Baptist Church, and the Propeller Club.
Cox is registered as a Republican.
