Judge Lisa Grey - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Lisa Grey is a judge for the Richmond County Civil Court in the Thirteenth Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the Civil Court bench in 2017. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Philip S. Straniere (Ret.).

She is a registered Republican.

Judge Grey received her B.S. from St. John’s University in 1990. She went on to earn her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1997.

After graduating from law school, Grey began her legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office in 1998.

In 2005, she left the public sector to enter into private practice, where she first practiced briefly as an associate at Yesles Lepowsky Weiss Danke LLP until entering into solo practice. While maintaining her law practice, Grey also served as special counsel to New York State Senator Andrew J. Lanza (2013 to 2016) and was the Republican commissioner of the New York City Board of Elections (2016 to 2017).

Grey also served as the first female vice chair of the local Republican Party.

She has been a member of the Richmond County Bar Association since 2017.

At the time of her election to the bench, Judge Grey resided in Richmond Town in Staten Island, New York.
