Judge Lisa A. Allen - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Lisa A. Allen is a judge for the Hillsborough County Court in Florida. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018.

Prior to her election, Allen was of counsel to Ansa Assuncao, a law firm she joined in 2017. During her tenure there, she practiced in the areas of commercial, real estate, construction, transportation, insurance, and business litigation. Before that, she spent time as a managing shareholder at Allen Law & Mediation (2015 to 2017).

Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in business management and economics from the University of Florida in 1996. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 2000.

After graduating from law school, Allen entered into private practice, specializing in banking law, commercial and residential foreclosures, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, commercial evictions, unfair trade practices, and consumer and commercial collections. She started as an associate at Cohn, Cohn & Hendrix (2001 to 2003) before moving to GrayRobinson (2004 to 2005). Then, in 2006, Allen began clerking for the Hon. James S. Moody, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Her memberships have included the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Association of Women Lawyers, the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association, the Conference of County Court Judges, and the Cheatwood American Inn of Court. She also sat on the Local & State Issues Committee of the Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and she volunteered for the Wills for Heroes Pro Bono Project at Bay Area Legal Services.
