The Hon. Linda J. Sloven is a judge for the Nevada County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2012. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Julie A. McManus (Ret.).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Sloven graduated with her B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley in 1975. She went on to earn her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1979.
She began her legal career as a staff attorney at Toward Utility Rate Normalization in San Francisco in 1980. A year later, Sloven joined the law firm Kazan, McClain, Greenwood, and Harley, where she practiced as an associate for seven years. While there, Sloven represented plaintiffs in asbestos and medical malpractice cases. In 1989, she joined the law firm Saperstein Seligman, where she would handle discrimination class action cases for four years. Sloven left the firm in 1994 to enter into solo practice, where she would remain until her appointment to the bench in 2012. Her practice during that time involved representing plaintiffs in employment matters and nursing home neglect and abuse cases.
During her time on the Superior Court, Judge Sloven served a two-year term as an Assistant Presiding Judge of the Court beginning in 2016 and then subsequently served as the Presiding Judge of the Court beginning in 2019.
Some of her memberships have included the National Lawyers Guild, the Nevada County Bar Association, the Nevada County Citizens for Choice, and the Nevada City Schools Foundation.
