Judge Linda J. Kevins - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Linda J. Kevins is a Justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2017. Prior to the election, Justice Kevins had served as a judge for the Suffolk County District Court since being elected to the seat in 2014.

Justice Kevins graduated with her B.S. in business management from the State University of New York at Empire State College. She went on to earn a J.D. from Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1996.

She joined the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in 1998, where she worked as an assistant district attorney until 2005. During her tenure there, Kevins was instrumental in helping to establish a Domestic Violence Part in Suffolk County.

After leaving the D.A.’s office in 2005, Kevins then began a nine-year tenure with the New York State Unified Court System. She first served a principal law clerk to the late Hon. Robert Ross, former supervising judge of the Matrimonial Courts with the Nassau County Supreme Court. In 2011, she became the principal law clerk to the Hon. Hope Schwartz Zimmerman, who replaced Judge Ross after his passing. Kevins later served as a principal court attorney to the Hon. Marion McNulty, supervising judge of the Matrimonial Parts with the Suffolk County Supreme Court and to the Hon. Marlene Budd, Acting Justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court. She remained in this position until her election to the District Court bench in 2014.

Kevins has also taught family law as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University School of Law beginning in 2012.

She founded the nonprofit Partnership to Advance Women Leaders in 2011.

Her memberships include the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the National Association of Women Judges. She has also served as the former vice president of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York and the director of the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association.

Justice Kevins is a longtime resident of Long Island, New York.
