Biography

The Hon. Leslie C. Nichols (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor George Deukmejian in 1984. During his twenty-five-year tenure, he presided over settlement conferences, civil law, family law, juvenile delinquency and dependency, probate, mental health, and criminal law matters.

Nichols earned a B.A. from Stanford University in 1963. He then received an LL.B. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1966.

He began his legal career as a staff attorney with the San Mateo County Legal Aid Society in 1967. Two years later, he transitioned into private practice, starting a general trial and appellate practice at Nichols & Ambler.

Nichols was appointed to the Mountain View City Council in 1977. He also served two terms as Mayor of Mountain View.

He is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association (2010). He was named Trial Judge of the Year by the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association (2002).

Nichols was born in Illinois and raised in Burlingame, California.
