The Hon. Leon M. Firtel (Ret.) was a judge for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in Miami-Dade County, Florida. He was elected to the Circuit Court in 1996 and retired from the bench in 2015.
Firtel received a B.S. and B.A. from the University of Florida in 1966. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1972.
Prior to his election to the Circuit Court, Firtel worked as an assistant city attorney with the Office of the City Attorney in Miami beginning in 1982. He joined the City Attorneys Office after working in private practice for ten years.
While on the bench, Firtel held assignments in the Family, Civil, and Criminal Divisions.
After his retirement, he became a mediator for a mediation and arbitration firm.
His memberships have included the Dade County Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy, and The Florida Bar. He is also a former president of the Miami Beach Bar Association.
