Judge Laura Lee Jacobson - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Laura Lee Jacobson (Ret.) served as a justice for the Kings County Supreme Court in the Second Judicial District of New York. Jacobson was initially elected to the Civil Court of the City of New York (Kings County) in 1991. She was subsequently elevated to the Kings County Supreme Court twelve years later.

Jacobson earned a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.

After graduating from law school, Jacobson began her legal career as an attorney for the Harlem Assertion of Rights in 1974. The following year, she entered into private practice. She started as an associate at Cammer, Karlsson, Dallow & Parkerton (1975 to 1977). During this time, she also worked on the Public Utility Law Project.

In 1977, Jacobson left her firm and became a court attorney for the Hon. Elliot Wilk of the New York State Supreme Court. She served in this capacity until 1981, at which time she became a partner at Rinsler & Jacobson (1981 to 1989) and Weiss & Jacobson (1989 to 1990).

She retired from the bench in 2016.
