The Hon. Laura J. Davis is a judge for the Sutter County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Brian R. Aronson (Ret).
Judge Davis graduated with her B.A. in communication and theater from the University of California, San Diego. She went on to earn her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2001.
Davis joined the law firm of Folger, Levin and Kahn LLP as an associate after graduating law school in 2001. She remained there until joining Seyfarth Shaw LLP in 2003.
Then, in 2005, Davis became the lone research attorney for the Sutter County Superior Court. In that role some of her contributions included, assisting in the drafting of the court's local rules, maintaining the court's legal research materials, serving on the new courthouse committee, helping to implement the court's new paperless case management system and electronic filing process, and also serving as legal counsel to the Court's Executive Officer. Davis remained in that capacity until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.
She has also served as a judge pro tem, handling civil and traffic cases.
Davis taught a legal writing and research class as a professor at Cal Northern School of Law from 2015-2016.
Having grown up in Oroville, California, Davis has been an active member of her community. She has served as a volunteer for the local Humane Society as well as volunteered in clean-up events at her local parks. Before entering the legal profession, Davis worked as a program manager for the local Fox network affiliate for two years.
