The Hon. Laura H. Miller is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown on December 7, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.
Miller earned a B.S. from California State University, Chico in 1990. She then received a J.D. from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1993.
She began her legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Harry L. Powazek of the Superior Court of San Diego County in 1993. Then, in 1994, she joined Olins, Foerster, and Hayes as an associate. She held this position for nine years, eventually becoming a named partner in 2003. During her tenure there, she specialized in labor relations, family law, personal injury, probate, bankruptcy, criminal law, business law, and civil litigation. Miller left the firm in 2005 in order to start her own private practice, where she handled family legal matters until her appointment to the bench.
Miller has been a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, and she has served as its vice-president and its secretary.
She is a recipient of the Family Law ‘Norby’ Award from the San Diego Family Law Judiciary.
Miller was born in Los Angeles, California.
She is registered without party preference.
