Judge Larry D. Martin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Larry D. Martin is a Justice for the Kings County Supreme Court (Civil Term) in the Second Judicial District of New York. He began his judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in 1992. He was then elected to the Kings County Supreme Court in 1994 and re-elected in 2008.

Martin earned a B.A. from Johnson C. Smith University in 1970. Then, in 1973, he completed a J.D. at the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.

After graduating from law school, Martin worked as a staff attorney for Mead Data Central from 1975 to 1976. He then joined Harlem Legal Services, where he practiced until 1980. At that time, he accepted a position as a regional attorney for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. He served in that capacity for three years, eventually leaving to work as corporation associate counsel for the New York State Mortgage and Loan Administration.

Martin is a recipient of the Vivian H. Agress Trailblazer Award from the Brooklyn Bar Association.

He attended Boys High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
