Biography

The Hon. Ksenia Tsenin (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. She was elected to the Municipal Court of San Francisco County in November 1996. She was elevated to the Superior Court of San Francisco County upon the unification of municipal and superior courts in 1998.

Tsenin earned a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in 1970. She then received a J.D. from the University of San Francisco in 1973.

She began her legal career as an attorney in the Law Offices of Dimitri Ilyn in 1973. Ten years later, she left the firm and started her own private practice, where she worked as an attorney until 1996. During her tenure in private practice, Tsenin specialized in personal-injury suits and civil cases.

Tsenin was the second openly lesbian judge to serve on the Superior Court of San Francisco County.

She was born in Shanghai, China to Russian parents. They moved to San Francisco, California when she was eight years old.
