Judge Kristian E. Hedine - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Kristian E. Hedine is a judge for the Walla Walla County District Court in Washington. He was elected to the bench in 2010 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jerry Votendahl (Ret.).

During his tenure on the District Court, Hedine sat as a part-time judge before becoming its full-time presiding judge in 2014. In addition, he has sat as a judicial member of the Washington State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

He received a B.S. in psychology from the University of Washington in 1978. Hedine then completed a J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law in 1982.

Prior to beginning his judicial career, he worked as a private practice attorney. This included practicing as an attorney at Reese, Baffney, Schrag & Hedine and acting for three years as in-house counsel to the telecom company, HighSpeed Communications. Hedine also founded Virtual In-House Counsel in 2001 and was the assistant city attorney in Walla Walla (1982 to 1995) and the city attorney in Waitsburg and Prescott.

In addition to his private practice, he acted as an adjunct investigative counsel for the Washington State Bar Association in connection with its disciplinary function.

Hedine is an active member of the District and Municipal Court Judges’ Association, having served on several of its committees.
