The Hon. Kimberly E. Colwell is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2012.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Colwell received her B.A. from Linfield College in 1980. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1984.

Colwell spent her entire legal career, outside of the bench, in private practice. She first worked as an attorney at Eskanos and Adler PC from 1987 to 1989. She was a partner at the Law Offices of Bertrand Fox Elliot and Colwell from 1990 to 2002. She then joined Meyers, Nave, Riback, Silver, and Wilson, PLC where she would serve as a shareholder and chair of the firm's Litigation Practice Group. During her time in private practice, Colwell specialized in federal and state civil rights violations, employment discrimination, and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She would remain with Meyers Nave until her appointment to the bench in 2012.

Her memberships have included the Alameda County Bar Association, and the Women Lawyers of Alameda County.

Judge Colwell, who is a native of North Hollywood, is thought to be the first out lesbian to be appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court. She has been married to her wife, Deborah Craig, a filmmaker, since 2008.
