Judge Kim H. Martusewicz - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Kim H. Martusewicz is an Acting Justice for the Jefferson County Supreme Court in the Fifth Judicial District of New York. Martusewicz was initially elected to the Jefferson County Court in 2000. Shortly after his re-election to the bench in 2010, Martusewicz was designated to the Jefferson County Supreme Court. During his tenure on the bench, Martusewicz was instrumental in the creation of the Jefferson County Drug Court.

Martusewicz attended St. Lawrence University, where he earned a B.A. in government in 1974 and an M.Ed. in education administration in 1976. During this time, he briefly taught at Watertown High School. Then, in 1978, he completed a J.D. at Western New England School of Law.

After graduating from law school, Martusewicz entered into private practice in 1979. He joined Wisner, Scanlon, Saunders & Martusewicz as an associate, eventually rising through the ranks to become a named partner in 1985. He then worked in his own private practice from 1991 to 1999. During this time, Martusewicz began his judicial career as a town justice for the Theresa Town Court, a position to which he was appointed in 1986.

His memberships have included the New York State Bar Foundation, the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates, the Jefferson County Bar Association, and the Jefferson County Magistrates Association. He has also served as president of the Citizens for Recovery Institute, vice-chair of the Jefferson County Community Services Board, and president of the Neighbors of Watertown, Inc.

He taught Criminal Administrative Procedures as an adjunct professor at Jefferson Community College from 2003 to 2009.
