The Hon. Kevin Haskins is a judge of the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was elected on November 4, 2014.
Haskins attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a B.A. in English in 1982. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1986. Haskins also earned a L.L.M. from Chapman University in 2010.
Haskins began his legal career by working in the Office of the District Attorney of Orange County as a Deputy District Attorney. He prosecuted a range of misdemeanor and felony offenses, such as driving under the influence, robbery and residential burglary, as well as attempted murder. Then, in 1991, he joined the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit, prosecuting child molestation, rape, and kidnapping cases until 1994. He spent the next three years working as an attorney in his own private practice, where he specialized in pre-trial motions and appeals. He returned to the Office of the District Attorney in 1999 and was quickly promoted to the Gang Unit in 2000 and the Homicide Unit in 2002. In 2005 he began serving as Assistant District Attorney, a position he held until his election to the Superior Court of Orange County in 2014.
Haskins has worked as an adjunct professor at Chapman University Fowler School of Law.
He received the Outstanding Prosecutor Award from the Association of Orange County Deputy District Attorneys in 1993.
Haskins moved with his family to Orange County in 1972. He attended San Clemente High School and worked as an Ocean Lifeguard for the City of San Clemente. He has lived in Laguna Niguel, California with his wife and two children. He is a volunteer for the Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership.
