The Hon. Kenneth L. Thompson, Jr. is a Justice for the Bronx County Supreme Court (Civil Term) in the Twelfth Judicial District of New York. Thompson began his judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Bronx County in 1990. He was subsequently elected to the Supreme Court in 1996 and re-elected in 2010.
Thompson earned a B.A. from New York University in 1973. Then, in 1976, he completed a J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law. He continued his studies at New York University School of Law, where he received an LL.M. in 1980.
He began his legal career as counsel for the Williamsbridge Taxpayers Association as well as assistant general counsel for the Office of Chief Counsel of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Then, after graduating from law school, he joined EF Hutton & Co. as a summer intern.
In 1979, Thompson became a pleadings attorney for the New York State Department of Insurance. However, his time there was brief. The following year, he moved to the Bronx County Surrogate’s Court, where he served as a law assistant referee until 1984.
