The Hon. Kenneth J. Fernandez is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Fernandez graduated with his B.A. in social science from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 1992.
During law school, Fernandez clerked for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, where he accepted a full-time position as a deputy district attorney after he graduated. As a deputy, Fernandez' assignments included juvenile, writs and appeals, felony trials, and family support. He remained with the D.A.'s office for eleven years.
He was then selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Riverside County Superior Court in 2004, a position he would hold until his appointment to the bench in 2018. During his time as a commissioner, Fernandez presided over misdemeanors, drug court, traffic, small claims, and dependency court.
While on the bench, Judge Fernandez has presided over a probate calendar assignment at the Riverside Historic Courthouse.
He served as past-president of the Rape Crisis Center and was also a board member for several years.
His professional committees have included the California Judges Association Ethics Committee, the Superior Court Commissioners Committee, and the Court Community Planning Committee.
He has also taught qualifying ethics at the Center for Judicial Education and Research.
