Biography

The Hon. Kelly L. Hansen is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009.

Judge Hansen graduated with his B.A. in international relations from Brigham Young University. He went on to earn his J.D. from Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark School of Law in 1991.

During law school, Hansen served as a clerk for the Utah Department of Justice's Office of the Attorney General in their civil litigation division.

After law school, Hansen was determined to clerk for the district attorney's office. He was able to secure a clerkship with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, so he moved from Utah to California. After completing his clerkship, Hansen was hired on full-time in San Diego County in 1992. He remained there until 2002 when he joined the Riverside County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney. He quickly advanced through the ranks there, reaching supervising deputy in 2006 and a year later was promoted to chief deputy district attorney. During his seven-year tenure there, Hansen helped prosecute child abuse cases. He remained in that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2009.

While on the bench, Judge Hansen has been assigned to the criminal trial department.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time on the water, body boarding, surfing, and swimming.
