Hon. Keith B. Johnson is the Chief Judge for the Richmond County Juvenile Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by the Augusta Judicial Circuit Superior Court judges in 2013.
In addition to his judicial responsibilities, Johnson has maintained his own private solo practice, Keith B. Johnson, LLC, since 2015.
Before that, he was an attorney at Trotter Jones, LLP (2013 to 2015) and had spent time as an assistant district attorney with the District Attorney’s Office in Augusta (2009 to 2013). As a prosecutor, Johnson handled felony jury trials with some resulting in life sentences.
During his tenure in private practice, he has represented individuals in criminal offenses in state and federal courts throughout Georgia and South Carolina.
Johnson received a B.A. in history from Furman University in 2005. While at university, he played cornerback on two Southern Conference Championship teams (2001 and 2004) on a football scholarship. Johnson went on to complete a J.D. at Michigan State University College of Law in 2009. As a law student, he was the Notes and Comments Editor of the Michigan State Journal of Gender Law. Johnson also received the Jurisprudence Award in Criminal Law.
He was admitted to practice in Georgia (2009), South Carolina (2014), the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Georgia Supreme Court.
Johnson is a past president of the Augusta Bar Association, holding the distinction of being the first African American man to serve in that capacity.
He was named one of the Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorneys in the United States by the National Trial Lawyers Association and has been listed on the Super Lawyers Georgia Rising Stars list for three consecutive years (2017, 2018 and 2019).
