The Honorable Karen Joy Nudell

Los Angeles County Superior Court, Department retired


The Hon. Karen Joy Nudell (Ret.) was a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was originally appointed to the Los Angeles Municipal Court in 1997 by former governor Pete Wilson. She retired from the bench on June 8, 2017. The Hon. Terrance T. Lewis filled the vacancy created by her retirement.

Judge Nudell received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. She went on to earn her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Nudell served as a court commissioner for the Pasadena Superior Court.

In 2016 Nudell spoke on the subject of capital punishment at a Jewish hosted Erev Shavuot service.
