The Hon. Joshua D. Wayser is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He succeeded Cesar C. Sarmiento who retired from the bench. Wayser was appointed by former Governor Jerry Brown on November 17, 2015.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Wayser received his B.A. from Columbia University, New York. He went on to earn his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Wayser clerked for the Hon. Louis L. Stanton with the United States District Court of the Southern District of New York in 1988. After his clerkship ended in 1990, Wayser joined the Los Angeles law firm of Shearman & Sterling, LLP as an associate. He practiced with the firm for two years until joining the Santa Monica law firm of Stern, Neubauer, Greenwald & Pauly, PC as an associate in 1992. He was made a partner of the firm in 1995. He left the Santa Monica firm after 13 years to join Lord, Bissell, and Brook, LLC as a partner in 2005. Then in 2008, Wayser joined Katten, Muchin, and Rosenman, LLP as an associate. He was subsequentially named a managing partner for the firm in 2011 and remained in that capacity until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2015. His practice expertise focused on banking and real estate litigation.
His memberships have included the Gay and Lesbian Legal Services Clinic, and the Union of Reform Judaism.
He is an avid panelist and speaker on diversity and inclusion.
