Judge Joseph K. Williams, III - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Joseph K. Williams, III is a judge for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ed Rendell on October 7, 2008.

Prior to his appointment, Williams worked as an attorney in private practice for twenty-four years. His firm was based in Manchester, where he specialized in real estate development, international transactions, and criminal matters.

Williams earned a B.A. in psychology from Carnegie Mellon University in 1974. He then completed an M.A. in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh (1980) and a J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law (1985).

Born and raised in Manchester, Williams attended public schools in Pittsburgh. His father was a building engineer in the Federal Building and his paternal grandfather worked as a janitor in the Allegheny County Courthouse.

Williams raised his family on a farm in Verona. During this time, he developed several historically significant properties in Manchester, including an 1884 Queen Anne home. Williams also enjoys collecting Persian and Caucasion carpets, and he has spent time as a dog breeder and competitor in Schutzhund.
