Biography

The Hon. Joseph J. Solga is a judge for the Napa County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. At the time, he filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Diane M. Price (Ret.).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Solga holds a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law.

Prior to his appointment, Solga was working as a deputy public defender with the Napa County Public Defender’s Office. He came to the position in 2002, after serving as an assistant city attorney at the City Attorney’s Office in Park City, Utah since 2000. His legal career also includes working as a deputy public defender with the Placer County Public Defender’s Office in California from 1999 to 2000 and as a Placer County deputy district attorney from 1998 to 1999. Before relocating to California, Solga served as a deputy public defender with the Southern Oregon Public Defender’s Office from 1994 to 1998.

While on the Superior Court, he has held assignments in the Appellate Division, Juvenile Division, and the Family Division, where he also serves as the supervising judge.

At the time of his appointment, Judge Solga resided in Napa, California.
