Biography

The Hon. Joseph E. Bergeron (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Mateo County in California. He was elected to the bench on June 4, 1996, and he retired in 2017.

Bergeron earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1962. He then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1968.

He began his legal career as an attorney in his own private practice in 1969. Then, in 1995, he joined the Law Offices of McCracken, Beyers & Bergeron, where he briefly worked before his election to the bench.

Bergeron has chaired the San Mateo County Planning Commission. He has also served as president of the Italian American Federation, the Trial Lawyers Association, and Consumer Attorneys of California.

He served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.
