The Hon. John W. Vineyard is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2011. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. W. Charles Morgan (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Vineyard graduated cum laude with his B.A. from Northeast Louisiana University in 1985. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 1989.
He began his legal career in the private sector, where he would practice real estate and business law for almost twenty years.
He was working as a sole practitioner in 2008 when he was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Riverside County Superior Court. He would maintain that position until his appointment to the bench three years later.
He has also been an active member of his community. He was a member and past-president of the Riverside Sunrise Rotary Club and served on Riverside City Council's Board of Library Trustees. He also served on the board of directors for the Alcott Elementary School Foundation, the Riverside Hospice, and the University of California, Riverside Athletic Association.
His professional committees have included the Litigation Section, the Mock Trial Steering Committee, the Judicial Liaison Committee, the Judicial Evaluation Committee, and the Public Bar Relations Committee, just to name a few.
Judge Vineyard was born and raised in the Inland Empire. He and his wife, whom he met in Riverside, were married at the historic Mission Inn. He is also an avid genealogist, having traced his own genealogy back several hundred years. His other pastimes include eating sushi and rooting for the New Orleans Saints.
