The Hon. John S. Somers is a judge for the Superior Court of Kern County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in May 2008, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Charles McNutt (deceased).
Somers earned a B.A. from Knox College. He then completed a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, he served in the Office of the District Attorney of Kern County from 1985. He entered as a deputy district attorney, eventually rising to supervising deputy district attorney.
He has served as the Director of the Alliances of California Judges.
