Biography

The Hon. John P. Doyle is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was originally appointed to the Los Angeles Municipal Court by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1996.

Judge Doyle received his B.A. from Harvard University in 1971.

Doyle served in the Navy after college.

After being discharged from the Navy, he went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1978.

Doyle began his legal career in New York, where he practiced at the law firm of Hughes, Hubbard, and Reed as well as the Coudert Brothers law firm. After returning to California, Doyle became an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California in 1982.

After five years as a federal prosecutor, Doyle entered into private practice in 1987. He remained in that capacity until his appointment to the Municipal Court.

Judge Doyle has served as a panelist and adjunct professor for Pepperdine Law School, where he taught on the subjects of domestic violence, trial procedure, and mediation.

During his time as an adjunct faculty member for Pepperdine, Judge Doyle taught at their London England law program.

In October of 2017 Judge Doyle took a judicial sabbatical. During his absence, the Hon. Nicole M. Heeseman was appointed to fill his position. He subsequently returned to his judicial duties.
