Judge John M. Meyer - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. John M. Meyer (Ret.) served as a judge for the Skagit County Superior Court in Washington. Meyer joined the bench in 1997. He retired on June 30, 2015.

Prior to his appointment, Meyer sat as a judge for the Skagit County District Court, a position to which he was selected in 1995. Before that, he spent two decades as a partner at the Gilbert and Meyer Law Firm in Mount Vernon.

Meyer earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Washington in 1968. He then completed a J.D. at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1971.

After graduating from law school, Meyer began his legal career as a staff attorney with the Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C.

His memberships have included the Board of Trustees of Western Washington University, the Board of Judicial Administration, the Superior Court Judges Association (treasurer), the Sentencing Guidelines Commission, the Skagit County Bar Association (president), the Skagit Homeless Youth Task Force (chair), the Skagit Valley Family YMCA (president), and Mount Vernon Kiwanis (president).

He was named Judge of the Year by the Washington State Association for Justice (2009).
