Judge John Hotchkiss - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. John Hotchkiss (Ret.) was a judge for the Douglas County Superior Court in Washington. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Gary Locke in December 1998 to fill a newly created position. Hotchkiss retired in 2019.

At the time of his appointment, he became the first judge to preside on the Douglas County Superior Court. Until that time, Douglas County had been served by the combined Chelan-Douglas Superior Court.

Hotchkiss was working as a partner at Cassel, Beuhler, Hotchkiss, DiTommaso & Crowell in Wenatchee when he received the appointment to the bench.

He completed a J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law. While in law school, Hotchkiss worked as a part-time law clerk in the United States Attorney’s Office in Spokane.

He was an active participant of the Rotary Club and spent time as a coach for various youth sporting activities.

Hotchkiss was born in Grant County.
