Hon. John Hannah is a judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. He was appointed to the bench in 2005.
During his judicial tenure, Hannah has held assignments in the Civil, Criminal, Family, and Juvenile Courts.
Prior to his appointment, he had practiced as an attorney in the Phoenix law firm of Hoidal & Hannah since 1998. Before that, Hannah was an assistant federal public defender with the United States Defender’s Office (1991 to 1998) and a staff attorney for the Arizona Capital Representation Project in Tempe (1989 to 1991).
He received a B.A. from Pomona College in 1980. Hannah went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law in 1984.
After law school, he began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. William C. Canby, Jr. with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (1984 to 1985). Then, upon completing his clerkship, Hannah entered into private practice at Meyer, Hendricks, Victor, Osborn & Maledon (1985 to 1989).
He has also taught as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University.
Hannah sat as a member of the Ninth Circuit Jury Improvement Committee and the State Bar of Arizona Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct (past chair). He also held a membership with the Sandra Day O’Connor Inn of Court.
