Biography

The Hon. John E. Munter (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed by former governor Pete Wilson in January 1994, and he retired from the bench in December 2014.

Munter earned a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1963. He then received a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1966.

He began his legal career as an associate at Brobeck, Phelger, and Harrison, eventually becoming one of its partners. Then, in 1979, he became a founding member of Lasky, Haas, Cohler, and Munter. During his tenure as a litigator, he specialized in complex civil cases.

Munter has been a member of the Edward J. McFetridge American Inn of Court, serving as its social chair, program chair, secretary, treasurer, vice president, counselor, and president.

He was born in San Francisco, California.

He is registered as a Republican.
