Judge Joel Perez: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Joel Perez is a judge for the 437th District Court in Bexar County, Texas. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022.

Prior to his election, Perez spent time as an attorney in private practice as well as an assistant district attorney with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

Perez earned a B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1988.

He is licensed to appear before the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Perez is registered as a Democrat.
