The Hon. Jennifer R. Gerard is a judge for the Riverside County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Gloria C. Trask (Ret.).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Gerard graduated with her B.A. in legal studies and her M.A. in criminal justice from Chapman University. She went on to earn her J.D. from Western State University College of Law.
While in law school, Gerard served a clerkship at the Orange County District Attorney's Office. After she completed her law degree, she was hired on full-time at the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, where she worked as a deputy district attorney for three years beginning in 2003.
She left the D.A.'s office in 2006 to enter into solo practice. During her time in private practice, Gerard would practice family law and criminal defense at her own firm (2006 to 2017) while concurrently practicing as an attorney under contract for the Juvenile Defense Panel (2006 to 2013). She also practiced as a contract attorney for Virginia M. Blumenthal at VMB Attorneys (2013 to 2016), with the Riverside County Minors' Counsel and Adoption Panels (2012 to 2017), and at the Los Angeles Criminal Appellate Project (2010 to 2017).
Then, in 2017, Gerard was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Riverside County Superior Court, a position she would hold until her appointment to the bench the following year.
Gerard also served as an instructor at the University of Phoenix.
While on the bench, Judge Gerard has presided over a family law calendar assignment at the Riverside Family Law Court.
Judge Gerard is a native of California. At the time of her appointment, she was residing in Yorba Linda with her husband, a fire captain in the City of Orange, and their two sons.
