The Hon. Jenna M. Whitman is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former governor Jerry Brown. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. George C. Hernandez, Jr. (Ret.).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Whitman received her B.A. from Yale College in 1995. She went on to earn her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001.
Whitman served as an associate for Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk, and Rabkin from 2001 to 2004 and for Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann, and Bernstein LLP from 2005 to 2007.
She joined the Alameda County Superior Court in 2007, where she served as a research attorney for ten years. Then, in 2017, she became a court appellate attorney for the California Court of Appeal for the First District, a position she would hold until her appointment to the Superior Court the next year.
While on the bench, Judge Whitman has presided over a general civil calendar at the Hayward Hall of Justice.
Her memberships have included the Alameda County Bar Association and
the commissioner of the Oakland Public Ethics Commission, a position she held from 2013 to 2016.
Judge Whitman, enjoys spending time with her wife Amy and their son. She is also an avid swimmer.
