The Hon. Jeffrey P. Minehart is a judge for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench in 2003 and subsequently retained in 2013.
Minehart earned a B.A. from Temple University in 1969. Minehart spent the next several years working as a juvenile probation officer. He then completed a J.D. at Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law in 1976.
Two years after graduating from law school, Minehart joined the Philadelphia County District Attorney’s Office. He served as an Assistant District Attorney, holding assignments in the Juvenile Court Unit, the Felony Waiver Unit, and the Rape Unit.
Minehart left the District Attorney’s Office in 1981. At that time, he entered into private practice, working as an associate at Deasey, Scanlan & Bender. However, his time there was brief. In 1983, Minehart returned to the District Attorney’s Office, where he served in the Major Felony Program, the Career Criminal Program, and the Major Trial Unit.
In 1990, Minehart returned to private practice. He became a founding partner of Powell and Minehart, specializing in criminal and civil litigation. He worked in this capacity until his election to the bench.
